OpenMinds: Confronting the Dual Challenge – Emerging Solutions

This document presents an overview of the OpenMinds initiative and its approach to tackling the “Dual Challenge” of providing affordable, reliable energy while simultaneously reducing greenhouse gas emissions. OpenMinds, a group of business, academic, and political leaders, aims to identify and prioritize solutions that can achieve significant impact by 203X. The document lays out a framework for assessing potential solutions, focusing on factors like technological readiness, economic viability, and environmental impact. It then identifies the top 10 global solutions, which include strategies for decarbonizing traditional energy sources, increasing energy efficiency, and promoting renewable energy. To assess the feasibility of these solutions in different regions, the document categorizes countries into eight archetypes based on their traditional energy reserves and GDP per capita, providing valuable insights into the unique challenges and opportunities facing each archetype. Ultimately, OpenMinds aims to create a realistic and actionable plan to address the Dual Challenge, providing a roadmap for achieving a more sustainable energy future.
