Bain & Company: Point of View on Global Carbon Capture Use and Storage (CCUS)
This document is a report from Bain & Co on the state of Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technology. It analyses the current state of the technology, including operational facilities, projects in development, and the various capture technologies available. The report also explores the economics of CCUS, including the costs of capturing and storing CO2, as well as the potential for cost reductions through technological advancements and economies of scale. It focuses on the key drivers of CCUS adoption, including policy incentives, carbon pricing, and the development of new use cases for captured CO2. The report concludes by outlining two scenarios for the global volume of yearly CO2 capture by 2030, ranging from 160Mtpa to 550Mtpa depending on cost evolution and carbon pricing, highlighting the importance of both cost reduction and policy support for the successful deployment of CCUS technology.
