BloombergNEF: Energy Transition Investment Trends 2025

BNEF-ET-Investment-Trends

This document is an abridged version of the “Energy Transition Investment Trends 2025” report by BloombergNEF. The report tracks global investment in the low-carbon transition, including spending on clean technologies, the clean energy supply chain, equity investment in climate-tech companies, and debt issuance for energy transition purposes. In 2024, global energy transition investment hit a record of $2.1 trillion, with mainland China being the primary driver. Investment in clean energy supply chains reached $140 billion. Climate-tech companies raised $50.7 billion in equity, and energy transition debt totaled $1 trillion. Despite the increase in investment, the report indicates that current investment levels are still insufficient to meet net-zero targets by 2050, requiring a significant increase in spending in the coming years. The report identifies a distinction between mature and emerging technologies in the energy transition, with mature technologies continuing to grow and emerging technologies facing challenges in scaling up.
