Have we lost the war on climate change?
The attached presentation was prepared for a discussion with 15 families focused on investing in the climate tech. The topic on the table was: “Have we lost the war on climate change?” Going around the room, the following answer emerged.
The global climate transition is advancing, but not fast enough to reduce emissions at the pace required. Renewable energy now generates roughly 43% of electricity, yet emissions continue to rise as governments prioritize energy security, AI leadership, and economic resilience alongside decarbonization. Investment is shifting from broad net-zero ambitions toward commercially viable infrastructure, adaptation, and resilience solutions. Decarbonization is becoming more expensive, with many emissions reductions requiring technologies that are not yet cost competitive, particularly hydrogen and carbon capture. Meanwhile, growing AI-driven energy demand may extend fossil fuel use while also accelerating investment in nuclear, geothermal, and energy storage technologies.
The attached presentation served as an excellent thought provoker on the topic with some starkly negative data relating to climate change progress.
